VISCED partners met on 27 and 28 April 2011 in the accommodating MENON offices for a two-day meeting to discuss the progress on the main workpackages including the research activities. Partners discussed their research work and the public wiki which will contain all research results. Agreements were made about the classification of schools and colleges. Progress was made in setting up the International Advisory Committee and future project and committee meetings were discussed with a view on dissemination and network opportunities. During this productive meeting, the public launch of the VISCED website was also announced.

ATiT staff recently spent several days in Greece providing support to the HERMES project funded by the Greek Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs. HERMES is a pilot project providing two way interactivity based on DVB-RCS technology to remote Greek schools, many of them located in areas for which satellite is the only access option possible. This project will contribute to a national roadmap on how schools Internet access can be provided on a nationwide basis.

Mathy Vanbuel and Sally Reynolds contributed to the recently published EuroPACE publication, "European Networking and Learning for the Future. The EuroPACE Approach". This book collects articles from different authors involved in the development of the EuroPACE network and positions EuroPACE in the landscape of international networked e-learning. The articles give an overview of the history of the EuroPACE network and the changes that took place in the field of technology enhanced education and training over the past 20 years. All roads lead to Berlin on Wednesday 28th November for the annual Online Educa Berlin conference. With a packed agenda including several new elements, OEB07 looks set to break all previous records in terms of quality and participation. Poised to attract more than 2000 participants from 92 countries, its a good opportunity for us in ATiT to get togeher with old friends as well as meeting new people. eLearning Papers is a digital publication created as part of the elearningeuropa.info portal. The portal is an initiative of the European Commission to promote the use of multimedia technologies and Internet at the service of education and training.

eLearning Papers adds a new dimension to the exchange of information on e-learning in Europe and stimulates research. As such, the articles provide views regarding the current situation and e-learning trends in different communities: schools, universities, companies, civil society and institutions. eLearning Papers provides all those interested with an opportunity to have their texts published throughout Europe. Through these articles, the journal promotes the use of ICT for lifelong learning in Europe.

The scope of the eLearning Papers reflects the four interest areas of elearningeuropa.info: schools, higher education, training and work and learning and society. All e-learning related themes are accepted as topics.

A handbook ‘European Cooperation in Education Through Virtual Mobility’ has been published by EuroPACE ivzw (BE), SPACE (BE), ICWE (DE), TietgenSkolen (DK) and ATiT (BE).
It includes short summaries of innovative projects or activities, with a specific focus on outcomes, challenges and recommendations. This handbook can be downloaded at www.being-mobile.net

elearningeuropa.info is a portal established by the European Commission to promote the use of multimedia technologies and Internet at the service of education and training. The site offers specific information, services and resources for four basic areas: schools, higher education, the world of employment and lifelong learning. The elearningeuropa.info portal is a European Commission initiative which forms part of the eLearning Programme, managed by the Directorate-General for Education and Culture Multimedia Unit.

Online Educa Berlin, which will be held this year from the 29th of November to the 1st of December welcomes all proposals, suggestions and ideas for the conference agenda which are related to the main conference themes. The closing date for submission is the 29th of April 2006. Please check the Online Educa website for the submission guidelines and conference themes.

CHECKpoint eLearning portal has been online since June 2005 and is a useful and up-to-date news site with separate areas for Events, Corporate eLearning, Universities, Schools, Services and Links. CHECKpoint eLearning is also available as a free monthly newsletter.

The elearning site eLearningEuropa.org provides up-to-date and topical information about eLearning in all sectors in Europe and is a terrific resource if you want to find out more about various projects, initiatives and issues. It is also a good place to begin if you want to find out more about European Commission programmes supporting technology enhanced learning generally.
