August edition of Media in Education Newsletter available

This month's newsletter includes a feature article on the educational outreach programme of the San Francisco Film Society which will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2011. It also includes a description of the programme for the Media and Learning conference in November 2010 which combines a variety of presentations, discussions and online activities. The tools and services section contains an article about developments in camera technologies which are making high quality video recording far more affordable for educational video producers. The newsletter also contains a reminder about the grant deadline for taking part in an educational video production workshop for teachers and trainers in Leuven, Belgium in February 2011 - the closing date for grant applications is 15 September. Other articles include news about a new WEBTV service in Italy launched by CSP and an introduction to MEDEA's new national contact point in Bulgaria, Zinev Art Technologies Ltd. (ZAT).

July issue of Media in Education Newsletter now available

Hopefully, you will be glad to hear that the Media in Education Newsletter is also published throughout the summer!

The July issue includes lots of interesting news items related to video and media in education. You can read about possible educational uses of iPads, our French NCP, Université Nancy 2’s Vidéoscop, and the film archiving project 'European Film Gateway'.

Video portals and user experiences, a EUscreen workshop

The National Library of Sweden and the Swedish National Archive for Audiovisual Material in Stockholm organised on Thursday 11 February 2010 a workshop to document and support their work in the EUscreen Project, the European Commission supported project in the eContentPlus Programme. EUscreen aims at providing access to Europe's television heritage through an online portal with videos, photos and contextual information. During the workshop held at the National Library in the heart of Stockholm, Mathy Vanbuel gave an introduction to the discussion, lead by Pelle Snickars from the National Library of Sweden, about advantages and disadvantages of the coexistence of different user categories (General Public / Education / Research / Creative reuse) on a single video portal such as the one conceived in EUscreen. Tobias Golodnoff from the Danish public broadcaster DR presented their experiences from the DR project Bonanza and Andy O'Dwyer from BBC presented experiences regarding the user perspective in Video Active and similar projects at the BBC.

October Edition of Media in Education Newsletter Available

The October issue of the Media in Education Newsletter highlights the launch of the new Greek ministerial video web site for schools, the new JISC Digital Media Newsletter and the way Swedish schools are using media resources.

This month's newsletter contains a feature on the winner of the MEDEA Special Award in 2008 as well as a profile of CSP in Italy, a very active MEDEA national contact point. The October edition reports on the numbers of entries to the 2009 MEDEA Awards and gives information about other awards in this sector.

Over 250 Entries Received for MEDEA Competition

Entries to the annual MEDEA Awards have been arriving daily to the MEDEA Secretariat in recent weeks and more than 250 were received by the competition deadline of 30th September. The highest number of entries have been submitted by French organisations with organisations in Italy, UK and Germany also submitting a significant number. Judging will begin in mid-October and the organisers hope to have a list of finalists available at the beginning of November.

New EduTubePlus Web Site Launched

The new EduTubePlus web site is now online and provides the latest news about progress in the development of the EduTubePlus multi-lingual curriculum-related video-based e-service for European schools which will be launched in 2010. This content-driven site also provides information about the use of video in education generally and visitors are welcome to submit news about developments, initiatives and events related to the use of video in schools.

The site also shows examples of the types of video clips that will be available in the new EduTubePlus service and was developed by ATiT for the EduTubePlus consortium.

September Edition of Media in Education Newsletter

This newsletter is aimed at people actively engaged in promoting excellence in the use of media in education and is linked to the annual MEDEA Awards. Each month it  includes news about the MEDEA competition and other events, projects, initiatives and developments related to how media can best be used in education.

This month it includes an interview with Sergio Lopez Figueroa (Creative Director of Big Bang Lab) about his collaborative interdisciplinary creative learning project with British secondary school pupils called "Unseen Voices". The output of this project includes a film created by students entirely by re-using archive film footage and photography and editing digitised clips on the history of the second World War, the Holocaust and Kindertransport (youth refugees in 1939). 

 

First Teacher Training Course for EduTubePlus to Take Place in Budapest

The first 2 day training course for teachers in the EduTubePlus project will take place on 17/18 September in the International School of Budapest supported by project partners SZÁMALK Education and Information Technology Ltd. and ATiT. This hands-on workshop is aimed at teachers and others interested in the use of video for teaching purposes and will cover the creation and adaptation of video resources for use in the classroom

MEDEA Channel on YouTube Launched

The MEDEA channel has been launched on YouTube where you can see interviews with previous entrants including several 2008 winners as well as samples of entries from 2008.

Interviews cover topics like how the specific example of educational multimedia was made, how it was used and the equipment and skills required. Subscribe to the channel to be kept up-to-date with new additions.
