Mathy Vanbuel gave a presentation about the pedagogical framework and the approach to teacher coaching being undertaken by the EduTubePlus partners at the recent BaKaFORUM held 30 Jan – 1 Feb in Karlsruhe.

This annual event brings together educational broadcasters and others interested in educational and societal TV and Media and provided a good opportunity to find out more about what educational broadcasters around the world are up to.

The forum was made up of a mix of screenings and workshops and included many excellent examples of educational video material as well as documentaries on a several highly emotive topics like the racist attacks on migrant communities in South Africa in 2008 and people trafficking in the Ukraine.

On Thursday and Friday 14 and 15 January 2010 ATiT participated in the mid term project meeting of the European Commission Lifelong Learning Project SoRuraLL, which focuses on using information and communication technologies in rural parts of Europe, especially within the education and training domain.

Partners from Greece, Bulgaria, Spain, Belgium, Germany and Poland gathered in the excellent premises of Ellinogermaniki Agogiki to discuss the progress of development and pilots. The pilot activities are beginning now and will continue until July involving teachers in Greece, Spain and Ireland as well as learners in Germany and Bulgaria and citizens in Poland.

ATiT are leading a training course in Sierra Leone from 22 to 24 June on the new interactive web service that has been designed for the Sierra Leone Investment and Export Promotion Agency (SLIEPA). Built using Drupal, this site allows experts to register their company and activities and make themselves available for parterships inside and outside the country. It also allows SLIEPA staff to provide information, business intelligence and connections to help local businesses grow and to contribute to the economic growth of Sierra Leone.

Mathy Vanbuel participated in a GDLN-ASEAN Project Identification team comprised of World Bank Staff and consultants that visited Jakarta from June 3 till 9 to work with ASEC officials, staff and consultants to explore and refine the concept of  a GDLN-ASEAN and to produce a comprehensive Project Document including project implementation plan, operational management plan, and business plan.

The mission addressed issues of technical requirements (facilities, connectivity arrangements, etc.), staffing, financial requirements, operational management, capacity building, etc. The mission also identified a number of program areas of mutual strategic interest in which the World Bank and other GDLN partners would collaborate in development and delivery of a multi-year series of knowledge exchange, dialogue, and capacity building activities. During the visit, the team also met with Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, ASEAN Secretary-General, one of the great promotors of the GDLN-ASEAN within the ASEC.

The Second Virtual Dialogue in the Women's Dialogue series about women in political leadership took place on Wednesday 25 February involving more than 120 people in the participating sites in Jordan, Kenya, Ghana and Lithuania.This two hour dialogue featured an interview with Former President of Ireland (1990 - 1997) and United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (1997 - 2002) Mary Robinson, followed by a discussion with a worldwide audience on closing the political gender gap and on ways to empower and prepare the next generation of women leaders. It attracted a wide variety of participants including several senior ranking ministerial representatives and policymakers. This included recently appointed Ghanaian Ministers,  Hon. Akua Sena Dansua , Minister of Women and Children’s Affairs and Hon. Juliana Azuma-Mensah Minister of Tourism.

Recommendations from this and the other Virtual Dialogues in the series will contribute to The International Colloquium for Women's Empowerment, Leadership Development, International Peace & Security Conference to be held on March 7 ­ 8 in Monrovia, Liberia.
